The Environmental Industry in Chambéry Aix-les-Bains

Located at the heart of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the area of Chambéry Aix-les-Bains benefits from a privileged position in the east of France.

This territory has put several structures in place to accelerate the development of ecological companies and to foster energy transition locally.

An area aiming for exemplary environmental standards

In this remarkable living environment, the preservation of the environment and air quality is a priority for the territory’s institutions. In this way, the living area around Chambéry and Aix-les-Bains has been aiming for exemplary environmental standards for several years.

Several actions have been put in place through the territory’s Climate, Air and Energy Plan: the TEPOS approach (energy-positive area), the Local Air Quality Plan and the Zero Emission Valley project to roll out hydrogen mobility. These actions target three major pollutant-emitting sectors: residential, transport and industry, as well as urban planning and agriculture.

In this context the Chambéry and Aix-les-Bains living area has been designated an experimental area as part of the Zero Emission Valley project. Given the potential of hydrogen and within the framework of the Zero Emission Valley project, several facilities are being developed in the area such as buses, autonomous shuttle buses, a riverboat on Bourget lake or a hydrogen station powered by waste combustion to recharge buses and dump trucks. Other tools are already operational like the hydrogen charging station for 50 vehicles or two charging stations for 15 hydrogen bikes.

The B’EEAU Lac Project

Savoie Technolac remains an application area for experimental projects with a focus on energy. For this reason, Engie is studying a hydrothermal development project for Lac du Bourget called BEEAU Lac. This ambitious project aims to establish a cold-water loop using a stable water temperature at a depth of 40 metres and, in the direction of the ZAC 3 (urban development zone) of the technopole, to deliver to the eco-hamlet of Granges and Bourget du Lac a cold or hot water network (after thermal exchange) for economic premises and for housing. The expected investment is €16 million to cover 9 km and eventually deliver 12 Gwh of energy (hot and cold).
