Why set up your company in Genopole?

Genopole is the first French cluster totally dedicated to biotechnology. The cluster has several strategic focuses: innovative therapies, including gene and cell therapies, diagnostics and CAR T-cells. The second focus is the bioeconomy, including greentech, foodtech and agri/agrotech. Finally, the last strategic focus is digital genomics and post-genomics, in the form of software, AI, data analysis and management.

Genopole is not limited to these areas, it hosts more than 120 companies in total that operate in the biotherapeutics, genetics research, xenobiology and more generally biotechnology industries.

Located in Evry-Courcouronnes, in the department Essonne and created in 1998, this biocluster has numerous financers such as the region Ile-de-France, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the Essonne department, the agglomeration Grand Paris Sud. It also has an international reach, with several European programmes underway.

The structure of Genopole:

Genopole is a biocluster located on over 100,000 m² of land and dedicated to biotechnology companies, research laboratories as well as shared infrastructures. Working in collaboration with the Essonne Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the SEM Genopole, the biocluster offers suitable real estate within a favourable environment.

SEM Genopole is responsible for managing the office and laboratory buildings on Genopole campuses 1, 3 and 5. The Essonne Chamber of Commerce and Industry provides an incubator consisting of offices and L1 and L2 laboratories for young companies. The GIP Genopole manages real estate for technology platforms and public laboratories under the supervision of academic organisations such as the CEA, CNRS, Inserm, the University of Evry, INRAE, etc.

Some key figures and news from 2020:

  • 121 labelled structures (77 companies, 18 laboratories, 26 platforms)
  • 13 new companies welcomed
  • 2 659 jobs
  • €926 million raised since 2000
  • Labelled as an "industrial integrator" for the Magenta project by ART-TG and CiTHERA as part of the major "Biomedicine" challenge
  • The Gen.era programme accredited by the European Commission, for the development of a partnership strategy between European clusters to consolidate the continent's position on the global genomics market.
  • EU|BIC label for the European Commission for its support to companies: only cluster in the IDF region.

Genopole is also an incubator and promotes various programmes:

Shaker Programme: This programme provides access to the equipped and shared Biotech Label and also provides a budget for the purchase of consumables. It also aims to introduce companies to entrepreneurship so that they can define and refine their strategy. Integrating the genopolitan ecosystem allows, above all, to meet the innovation participants and to access the technological platforms of the biocluster (microscope, spectometry, workshop...)

Gene.IO Programme: This new acceleration programme is aimed at innovative start-ups that are looking for investors or business partners to anticipate their market entry. The strategic areas targeted by this programme are innovative therapies, the bioeconomy and digital genomics. The programme offers 4 expertise packages, financial aid, a repayable advance, a mentor and access to the Genopole ecosystem.

ATIGE Programme: This grant is intended for research projects in the field of genomics, post-genomics, biotherapy, bioinformatics or biophysics. This support, which lasts for a maximum of 3 years, is intended to accompany researchers who have a position within a public research organisation.
